Get fit for the sake of living a great life!

Being self-employed, I work primarily from home. This certainly has its benefits. Besides being able to structure my own day, or run an errand during the workday, I also have the option to put my work aside mid-afternoon and get some exercisewithout even leaving the house. In light of this, I decided to purchase an elliptical trainer last year, thinking that it would be a good way for me to squeeze in some regular cardio. Or so I thought. Whenever I used it, I would get 15 minutes into a session and find myself bored, lonely, miserable, staring at the wall, completely uninspired, and not feeling any more fit because of it. If you dislike the gym, maybe it’s because you haven’t found the right gym—i.e. one that keeps you motivated, where you actually enjoy the process, and benefits, of getting and staying fit.

 

If you train with us, you’ll realize fitness doesn’t have to be boring or tedious, or something you’re just trying to survive or endure.

 

Feeling your body get fitter than it has ever been can actually be a fun process, believe it or not. And best of all, it will give you the freedom to pursue activities that you used to enjoy and wish you still could if you were young and fit again.

 

Our philosophy isn’t just to get you fit for the sake of being more fit. We believe in what the famous playwright George Bernard Shaw said: “We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing. (Shaw, by the way, lived to 94 in an era where life expectancies were much, much lower).

 

In light of this, we encourage all our members to use the newfound fitness they acquire training with us, in the real world: In life, in sports, and in outdoor activities and adventures. To help them feel alive again.

 

We want to make the following FUN again:

 

  • Riding a bike: No, not on a stationary bike. A real bike. Outside. We want you to enjoy getting your hands on a road bike and hitting the pavement, or getting off-road with a mountain bike. Biking can be exhilarating, and trail riding, with its rough terrain, dirt paths and trees, adds the element of nature, which has so many benefits to our physical and mental well-being, including reduced stress and improved energy.

 

 

  • Hit the pool (or the lake in the summer): Whether it’s splashing around or doing laps, getting weightless in the water should be a therapeutic experience. (If you don’t know how to swim, maybe take some lessons first). Swimming is also one of the best ways to get your heartrate up without putting stress on your joints.

 

  • Play tennis: You don’t have to be a touring pro to enjoy a game of tennis. Grab a friend, grab a racquet, and get the competitive juices flowing while finding out how you fare at hitting forehand volleys and drop shots. Tennis also gets you moving laterally, and challenges your hand-eye and reactionary skills in ways we don’t always test at the gym.

 

  • Play a round of golf: Even if you’re a terrible golfer, you can get something out of a round of golf: Remember those 10,000 steps you’re supposed to get every day? Playing a round of golf (or even just a 9-hole course or pitch and putt) will help you log upwards of 14,000 steps. Although Mark Twain famously said: “Golf is a good walk spoiled,” we whole-heartedly disagree. The golf just adds to the walk! It will also challenge you mentally and emotionally, as most of your shots probably won’t go the way you want if you’re just starting out, so it will challenge how you stay poised and rebound from frustration?

 

  • Or how about…Finding a league (or some friends) to play other sports you likely tried as a kid, like baseball, softball, volleyball, badminton, table tennis, flag football, ultimate Frisbee, dodgeball, ice hockey, squash, lacrosse…the possibilities are endless.

 

The point is, we’re not trying to turn you into a gym rat. We’re trying to get you stronger, more skilled, more mobile, more conditioned etc… so you can live a happier, healthier life and return to the way your body felt when you were 10 years old: Capable and confident.
